Illinois House Bill 5201 (2022)

AN ACT concerning State government.

This bill, known as the “Agriculture Equity Commission Act”, would establish the Agriculture Equity Commission to recommend policies to provide land access, financial planning, training, market access, and more to socially disadvantaged farmers and growers.

Illinois passed the Farmer Equity Act in 2018 which defines socially disadvantaged group as, “a group whose members have been subjected to racial, ethnic, or gender prejudice because of their identity as members of a group without regard to that member’s personal qualities. ‘Socially disadvantaged group’ includes, but is not limited to, African Americans, Native Indians, Alaskan Natives, Hispanics, Asian Americans, and Pacific Islanders.”
