Illinois House Bill 5224 (2022)

AN ACT concerning agriculture.

This bill would create the Healthy Soil Act and Healthy Soil Program to be administered by the Department of Agriculture to support land management that increases soil organic matter, aggregate stability, microbiology, and water retention to improve soil health, yield, and profitability. The Healthy Soil Program would include a soil assessment, technical assistance, education and outreach, on-site workshops, a grants program that could give priority to entities that serve young producers, veterans, and small farms or ranches, or to projects that benefit economically or socially disadvantaged communities, and other similar programs.
