Washington Senate Bill 5961 (2022)

AN ACT Relating to incentivizing the use of biochar; adding a new section to chapter 43.19A RCW; creating a new section; and providing an expiration date.

This bill would require state and local government-funded projects to use biochar products when available and financially feasible (unless it has detrimental impacts to a specific crop or the project involves greenhouse-grown trees). The bill also implements a pilot project to evaluate the costs and benefits of marketing and selling forest products to a biochar facility.
