Pennsylvania’s agricultural security area (ASA) enabling law allows local governments to enter into contracts with private landowners for the purpose of restricting specific parcels of land to agricultural use in exchange for protection from unreasonable local regulations, public nuisance lawsuits, and eminent domain actions. Enrollment in an ASA larger than 500 acres also enables participation in the state purchase of agricultural conservation easement program.
