2024 Tenure, Ownership, and Transition of Agricultural Land Survey

The Tenure, Ownership, and Transition of Agricultural Land (TOTAL) Survey is a study of agricultural landowners conducted by the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service and the USDA Economic Research Service. TOTAL provides national and regional data on owners of agricultural land, including income, expenses, debt, assets, landlord characteristics, and land transfer plans.

This fact sheet examines select data items from the 2024 survey, including the number of senior landlords and how much land they own; how landlords acquired their land; and landowners’ transfer plans. It also describes changes to the data collected in the 2024 survey.
