The Standard State Zoning Enabling Act was developed by the Department of Commerce and published in 1924.  A revised version was published in 1926.  The Act served as model zoning legislation for states and many passed statutes enabling local units of government (townships, municipalities, and counties) to enact zoning ordinances.
