Connecticut House Bill 5506 (2022)

An Act Adjusting the State Budget for the Biennium Ending June 30, 2023, Concerning Provisions Related to Revenue, School Construction and Other Items to Implement the State Budget and Authorizing and Adjusting Bonds of the State.

This is a budget bill that includes $14 million for the Farmland Restoration and Climate Resiliency Program (formerly the Farmland Restoration Grant Program). It authorizes the state Department of Agriculture to provide grants to producers to implement climate-smart agriculture and forestry practices as defined by the USDA NRCS. Eligible practices include: cover crops, reduced tillage, crop rotations, reducing nutrient applications, and composting. This legislation will also pay for increased capacity for technical assistance by paying service providers to develop resiliency plans for producers.
