Solar Soil Health Guide

Building on American Farmland Trust’s Smart Solar Principles, this guide discusses key considerations and practices to safeguard soil health during solar development, from site assessment through design and construction into operations and maintenance (O&M). The intended audience for this guide includes solar developers, engineering, procurement, & construction (EPC) contractors, and policymakers. Aspects of this guide are tailored to agrivoltaic applications, including grazing and crop production, but the general principles can be applied to any ground-mounted solar project to protect the future agricultural viability of the land.
